Eames Demetrios, grandson of the modernist design icons Charles and Ray Eames, once remarked on a visit to Taiwan that “design is a life skill rather than a professional skill.” Design is much more than fashionable outerwear. Truly “good” design is amply nourished and shaped by observations and considerations of everyday life. Thus, Shopping Design magazine’s slogan “Design - Buy it, Appreciate it, Live it!” captures our commitment to discover and enjoy exceptional people and things and their intimate ties to spatial aesthetics, cuisine, music, movies, travel, activities and other aspects of life in order to convey the true significance and value of design.
Shopping, one of modern life’s greatest pleasures, relies on carefully balancing production with consumption / aesthetic appreciation. Apart from our monthly publication, Shopping Design hosts the monthly Design+ get-together, a social activity for friends from across the design sector. We further vet and announce the annual Taiwan Design BEST 100 list, present the annual Shopping Design Awards, and hold other related activities throughout the year -- all part of our coordinated effort to enhance the general level of understanding and appreciation of culture, creativity, and design in Taiwan.
The ultimate goals of Shopping Design magazine include promoting conscientious consumption, promoting an ideal and inclusive approach to life, and refining the aesthetic sensibilities of our readers as an important step toward building an environment that is marked by greater beauty, warmth, and self-confidence.
